Every one of the 40 to 47 openers on the bar is its own machine: parallelogram linkage, breakout ram, seeding tyne and press wheel. Tyne depth and packing load are set and held independently of one another, so seed depth does not move when you change packing pressure.
01 Breakout
1300lb 590kg maximum tyne breakoutDouble acting 2.5" x 1.5" x 4" breakout cylinders hold up to 1300lb at the point, notably more than previous Shearer bars. The main ram provides regulated force, so the tyne keeps biting in hard going and still breaks out clean when it strikes an obstacle.
02 Packing & Swivelling
30 to 130kg Press wheel packing pressure, adjustable on the goThe press-wheel hydraulic ram provides independent pressure from the front-shank ram, maintaining consistent packing pressure with on-the-go adjustment.
Every parallelogram Tyne Opener operates independently. Front-tyne breakout and press-wheel packing pressure are set and controlled independently to maintain accurate fertiliser and seed placement.
Correct furrow closure reduces erosion and moisture loss while establishing capillary action to draw moisture up to the seedbed.
The press wheel swivels up to 25° when following curved sowing paths, allowing smooth tracking and reducing soil disturbance, pivot-point wear and maintenance.

The MK4 builds on the proven genetics of Shearer’s robust, effective seeding bars, refined through extensive testing and end-user feedback. In-frame wheels, front castors and a floating hitch deliver class-leading contour following, while wider tyre treads provide superior flotation.
Main frame wheels 560/60R22.5 169D. Castor and wing tyres 400/60-15.5 TRC-02, 14 ply. Heavy duty construction throughout.

Mk4 Common Questions
What row spacings are available?
The Mk4 comes as a 40ft bar with 10" (255mm) or 12" (305mm) row spacing: 47 tynes on the 10" bar and 40 on the 12" bar.
Can I adjust packing pressure on the move?
Yes. Press wheel packing pressure is adjustable from 30 to 130kg on the go, and it is independent of tyne depth, so changing packing does not move your seed placement.
What happens when a tyne hits a rock?
The breakout ram holds up to 1300lb (590kg) of regulated force. The tyne keeps biting in hard ground and breaks out cleanly over an obstacle, then returns to depth.
How wide are the bars for transport?
The Mk4 folds single to a 12m (39.5ft) overall width. Full dimensions are in the model table above.
